Personal Statement: Why I want to Teach English

Since high school, when I started teaching for my mother’s after school program, the Gainesville Association for the Creative Arts, teaching has been a passion of mine. My father, Sidney Homan, is a distinguished Professor of English at the University of Florida. I have taught and tutored students from elementary school to the university level. I am an enthusiastic, patient teacher who understand the difficulty of learning a new language. Having traveled extensively throughout South Africa, Europe, South American, and South East Asia, I am extremely comfortable in new environments. Japan, particularly, has always been an interest of mine, and I look forward to improving both my Japanese while further developing my teaching ability.
